We have 7 rescued parrots. Each one of them is a unique character, with a distinct personallity.  We have 1 blue and gold Macaw, 2 Scarlet Macaws, 1 Greenwing Macaw, 1 Military Macaw, 1 Mollucan Cockatoo, and "Ike" a Yellownape Amazon parrot who speaks Spanish and English fluently. If you want to hear "Ike" shout sentences in Spanish on Youtube (Spanish-speaking Martian) click on the link below: (It's amazing)

These bird have a 35' in diameter by 16 foot high wired in aviary that is in the backyard. They commute to thier cages in the screened in porch at night. They get fed a mixture of pelletted bird food and nuts in the mornings, then vegetables or fruit in the afternoons.

It's a really cool sight to see a Macaw fly,  but in most homes, they never get to.

We do not breed these birds at all, and frankly, tell people to really think twice about getting one for a pet, unless you have REALLY researched this and know that it is a lifelong commitment. These guys can live 70 years, and most people will have to put them in a will.  A lot of  people get a young bird, and the novelty wears off after a year or two of loud screaming and messy cages...especially after the bird goes through sexual maturity and becomes more aggressive. They will usually get put in the garage or even wind up at the shelter. In fact, three of my birds came from the shelter, and another was about to be euthanized because the owner didn't think he could get a decent home. Anyway, just make sure you give it a lot of thought before you take this on, especially if you have never dealt with these animals before. There are SO many unwanted older birds that no one is willing to adopt because eveyone wants a baby bird to bond to. What's going to happen to them?

Picutre of the 7 will be posted soon....
